#QT QUICK DESKTOP APPLICATION EXAMPLE HOW TO#
Starting with the fundamentals of the Qt framework, including the features offered by Qt Creator, this practical guide will show you how to create classic user interfaces using Qt Widgets and touch-friendly user interfaces using Qt Quick. Cross-Platform Development with Qt 6 and Modern C++ helps you understand why Qt is one of the favorite GUI frameworks adopted by industries worldwide, covering the essentials of programming GUI apps across a multitude of platforms using the standard C++17 and Qt 6 features. If you have basic knowledge of C++ and want to build desktop or mobile applications with a modern graphical user interface (GUI), Qt is the right choice for you. Qt is a cross-platform application development framework widely used for developing applications that can run on a wide range of hardware platforms with little to no change in the underlying codebase.

Leverage Qt and C++ capabilities to create modern, cross-platform applications that can run on a wide variety of software applications. If you're in a commercial environment, be very, very careful with Qt or be prepared to open a bottomless pit (and don't expect any customer service).Enhance your cross-platform programming abilities with the powerful features and capabilities of Qt 6 Key Features If you plan to use it with GPL, go ahead. The fact that they stopped Qt Widgets module development before having a suitable Qml replacement is something I'll never understand. It's still a cool piece of technology but it's the company behind it does everything to ruin it (and to fuck its customers really, really hard). To be honest: I use Qt nowadays only, because I'm used to it after I spent most of my professional career dealing with it. Also, be careful that the Qt Company tries to get rid of commercial LGPL users as hard as they can, so be prepared that new modules might be available in GPL, commercial only or in their fucked up market place (see the Qml TreeView: ).

The next step, as far as I understood will be desktop styling for Qt ( ) but it will be probably a half baked cluster fuck until at least Qt 6.4, so I wouldn't hold my breath. Absolutely not usable for (complex) desktop applications. Qt Quick Controls 2 has, despite its name, _nothing_ to do with QQC1 (not even naming conventions for trivial controls like slider: from/to minimumValue/maximumValue) and is targeted, again, for embedded only. However, the first desktop Qml successor, Qt Quick Controls 1 failed miserably, was a performance disaster, is already deprecated and will be removed in Qt 6. The Qt Company doesn't give a fuck about the desktop (and mobile) anymore, that's why no work has done on the (very stable) Widgets for quite some time. Well, I was in the same situation some time ago and I decided to use Widgets.
